Crazy good second installment to a great series!

My goodness Hold 2 did not disappoint! It starts where Hold 1 left off. Craddock lost his chance at making it big. Cassidy received the grant she needed. Because Zeke's comments and Cassidy not meeting Craddock before his match it made Craddock jump to conclusions about Zeke and Cassidy. I was upset with the ending of book 1. Craddock hurt Cassidy all because he thought Cassidy was going behind his back with Zeke. They needed more trust and communication in order to avoid what happened between them.

Now, upset he lost his girl and his career Craddock gets an unexpected second chance to go professional. Unfortunately this second chance keeps Cassidy at the hands of Zeke. Zeke doesn't hold a match to Craddock at all. I didn't like him in the first part and still don't like him. He plays nice and sweet but we know he has another side to him. How I wish I was Cassidy's best friend in the story to knock some sense into her and give her advice. But with the little advice she does get from her old social worker she has to learn and make decisions basically on her own.This definitely keeps you hooked and your emotions high just waiting for what turn it will take and this has alot of them that are not expected. Craddock is still the sexy alpha that I love and can't get enough of. Chemistry between him and Cassidy is so much hotter than the first book! Again I love how it's a story about romance as much as it is about MMA, we get a good amount of both. Jayne did wonders with this second installment. Crazy love triangle, that second chance at the pro's that may not be what it's all cracked up to be. And the ending!! Just brilliant! I definitely can not wait for Hold 3. I can't even imagine the goodness Jayne will come up for us. The wait will kill me but I know it definitely will be worth it. Again hold 2 does not disappoint at all! In love with this series so far!

Jayne Blue I've enjoyed plenty of her other books. So I was so happy to be given opportunity to give my opinion on her new Series Hold

I had a hard time writing this review, Cuz I didn't want to give away too much in my review ... I would definitely recommend this book... This is book 2 in a 3 part series
In the Hold Trilogy Book Two - Cassidy and Craddock learn that letting go can sometimes be harder than holding on.....

Craddock:
Craddock feels that Cassidy lied & betrayed with his enemy & rival (Zeke).. Great Wolves Gym had kicked him out when he kneed Zeke Powell in the head. So much for loyalty. The league had disqualified Craddock
Craddock dream of becoming Professional MMA fighter was seem to be lost with his title .. Until he got unexpected call from Meyer Thompson - offering him to be a contestant in Tough to the Top.” in Vegas.
Tough to the Top was the reality show that offered the winner a spot at a real 21C title.
Tough to the Top and Vegas were his second chance. This time no woman, nor the Preacher’s Son's bulls***, was going to get in his way.
Craddock start focus all his time & energy on his Career in the MMA...
Craddock was able to keep his temper under control in this book. Craddock had realized that his temper is what put him in this bad place

Cassidy:

Cassidy Parker had no idea how this had gone so wrong. She loved Craddock - Craddock loved her? Why was he with those women? It made her physically sick. She had given him everything. She opened herself up to him. Why had decided to hurt her?

Cassidy friendship with Zeke started to become more, but when Zeke touch Cassidy it wasn't the same special feeling she got when Craddock touch her.. Cassidy try to overcome her feeling for Craddock deciding the only way she could forget Craddock was to re-focus, remember what Craddock did to her , re-commit to her own goals. She was not here to fall in love. She was here to pay the rent while she got her social work degree.

Everything seem to be falling into place for Cassidy now Her school was paid for with her grant... .. Cassidy had focus on all the upcoming fight events for work. Her relationship with Zeke seem calm & drama free..
until Cassidy found out that Craddock training this week in their home gyms
Cassidy needed to stop this roller coaster with Craddock and Zeke

Now Bess & Sawyer that's one book I wouldn't mind reading .....
I believe the final installment of this series the characters will be facing some big challenges....
I am looking forward to the next addition to this Trilogy..... I am so glad that I will not have to wait long for the next installment

loved this too much for words

Review for HOLD TRILOGY : BOOK TWO
I was holding my breath for this book even though I was devastated at the end of book one. Craddock not only broke Cassidy’s heart…his actions broke mine too. So I was hoping to find some redemption for both of them in this book….and I wasn’t disappointed. Craddock has gone to Vegas to get his wish of still getting into the 21CFL…another fight league…after his disastrous fight with THE PREACHERS SON. He is still convinced Cassidy cheated on him and he wanted to hurt her. He accomplished that. What he doessn’t know is that he has also left the door wide open for Zeke to come through, just as he had planned. Craddock is totally focused in Vegas, knows why he is there, and nothing is going to stop him this time. As the contestants are whittled down from 16 to 8 in the first round, Craddock has a better idea of who will be the last two men standing, and he knows he is going to be one of them. What he doesn’t know is that there are sleazy producers and assistants there willing to do anything to achieve their goals….even if that means drugs and foul play. When the fighters are down to four, it is decided that they will go to their home gyms for training once again. This means Craddock and Cassidy are going to be together once again. While Craddock has been in Vegas, Cassidy has started her internship at Wayne State and loves it. She has also become involved with Zeke, which was his plan all along. She has also been looking in on Craddock’s brother Dylan occasionally. Of course, there is going to be some conflict, but Craddock has to hold it together for the cameras. When Jessie drops a bomb about the timing of Cassidy and Zeke getting together, Craddock knows he has screwed up big time and hopes like hell he can convince Cassidy to give him another chance. Cassidy is stunned to learn what Zeke said to Craddock in the ring that caused Craddock to snap. She confronts Zeke and he confirms what he had said. That makes Cassidy pull back from Zeke, mostly because he lied, but also because she never got over Craddock. When Cassidy comes to Craddock to apologize, they cannot stay out of each others arms or lives. But Craddock knows he has to play it smart this time…and he does. But all that flies out the window while they are watching the tapes of the show and Craddock realizes he has been setup…and Cassidy runs once again. Mad as hell, Craddock confronts the producer and gets a wake up call. He will finish what he started in Vegas, but by his rules this time. When he gets the proof he needs after winning, he plays his trump card and wins. Now his mind is made up and he is going to get Cassidy back, he’s not exactly sure how, but he is willing to play dirty to get her once again. Will his plan work…or will Cassidy be able to walk away this time and never look back ??

Great Option for Readers Wanting More Fantasy After LOTR, Hobbit

When readers, especially younger ones, ask me what fantasy novels to read after going through “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” by Tolkien, I usually tell them to check out “The Dragonlance Chronicles” by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. That trilogy starts off with “Dragons of Autumn Twilight,” a book I adored as a child and returned to three decades later.

There are problems to be sure. The writing is often clunky and, as the authors admit in their notes in the “Annotated Chronicles,” they fell into the traps associated with TSR producing a series of RP modules at the same time as the books, especially where “Autumn Twilight” was concerned. Characters often make strange decisions so the plot can flow and the humor goes from funny to forced in the blink of an eye. There are far too many heroes at the end of the book with almost 15 characters in the main party. Needless to say, some of the characters simply get lost (including one who was crucial at the start of the book and basically ignored by the end of it). Going through TOR’s reread of the books--which is worth looking at--I found myself nodding my head far too often as the reviewers pointed out the various problems.

But these problems pale in comparison to a fine book. Weis and Hickman do an amazing job at introducing the characters at the start of “Autumn Twilight” and do a fine job of guiding them through various adventures. The battles scenes are often excellent. Many of the heroes stand out as do some of the villains. Readers who enjoy fantasy novels should enjoy this book and exploring the lovingly crafted world of Krynn.

Sure, there are too many cliches. Yes, Weis and Hickman keep tripping over TSR’s modules. There are way too many characters fighting for attention toward the end of “Autumn Twilight.” These kind of problems would undermine most books. That doesn’t happen here thanks to a fun plot in constant motion and some strong and intriguing characters. Even after three decades, “Autumn Twilight” holds up very well. Highly recommended.

Superb fantasy read for those who enjoy a classic!

I would've given this superb fantasy novel five stars had I reviewed it at the time of my first reading, many years ago. I was a neophyte at the time and not wise to the ways and rules of 'acceptable' writing for fiction publication. I still love the story, the characters and the connection I feel to them all. However, there _are_ a lot of adverbs, POV shifts, creative dialog tags, etc. that seem to fall outside the accepted "norm" these days. Perhaps it's just writers making up rules to which they want to hold others because they themselves are held to them by editors, publishers, professors, etc.

I would never deign to lecture Weis and Hickman on proper writing; they've sold about a million more books than I have so far! Be that as it may, I highly recommend this book (and indeed, the series) for anyone who enjoys a great, classic fantasy read. You cannot go wrong with just about anything Weis and Hickman (or Weis alone) have written. I look forward to re-reading my catalog.

Entertaining first step into an epic world!

I have been looking for a new series to read for some time now. I thoroughly enjoy reading the Game of Thrones anthology, as well as work by Tolkien. I grew up reading the work by R.A. Salvatore, with a preference given to The Cleric Quintet, and the early Drizzt books.

In my opinion, the Dragon Lance series follows a very similar genre to the works listed above. I have enjoyed the start to this series. Many of the other reviews mention that the characters are shallow and cliche. I would have to disagree. While the character classes are more rigid, it is important to think about the world and readers these book were written for. Many of the readers played or enjoyed aspects of Dungeons & Dragons. I know that I did.

If you are looking for a new series to hop into, with plenty of supplementary books, then start right here! I highly recommend this series as an easy way to break from reality every now and again.

About the Author
Laurence "Lol" Tolhurst formed The Cure with Robert Smith in 1978. The Cure would go on to chart an impressive selection of achievements that includes selling over 27 million units worldwide and earning 40 Platinum and Gold Records. Lol, who continues to write and perform, makes his home in Los Angeles.

I enjoyed Lol’s memoir for the most part. His writing style is good, and I managed to finish the book in just two days. In it, you’ll find lots of interesting, occasionally funny, tidbits about The Cure’s history, like the Billy Idol toilet incident, or he and Robert’s constant altercations with skinheads. Lol does a good job setting up a dynamic between him and Robert- one of best friendship, followed by a bitter sacking and lawsuit, and ultimately reconciliation after Lol recovered from his crippling alcoholism.

The reason I have to deduct a star is that Lol's recounting of 1985-1989 seems insufficiently thorough. This can be blamed in part on Lol’s out-of-control alcoholism and diminishing role in the band, but there are three omissions I find particularly odd. First, while Lol discusses songs like Killing An Arab, Let's Go To Bed, The Walk, and Love Cats at length, he has nothing to say about any of the prolific songs which emerged during the 1985-1989 period like Inbetween Days, Close To Me, Just Like Heaven, or Lovesong, let alone the colorful videos Tim Pope made for Close To Me and Why Can’t I Be You? He mentions Robert's room catching fire during the Disintegration sessions, but stops just short of saying this was the inspiration for Pictures Of You. Nor does Lol state which of his, albeit few, ideas made it to the Disintegration album (Homesick is rumored to stem from one of his demos). Second, Lol doesn’t even mention Roger O’Donnell (“a midterm addition to the band”) until the book’s last chapter on the 2011 Reflections shows. In reality, Roger joined in 1987 because of Lol’s incompetence, and even filled in for Lol at shows where he was too drunk to perform. Third, I’ve read many articles describing Lol as the butt of vicious abuse by other band members in the late 80s- Robert even penned Shiver and Shake and Babble about him. Lol has nothing to say about this either.

That being said, do get this book if you’re a Cure fan, because you’ll probably learn something. I emerged with a newfound respect for both Robert and Lol. Robert, the enigmatic figure who’s “part of this world and also not part of it,” and someone who fought hard for his success, as well as Lol’s protection. Lol, someone who while not very technically proficient, served as the band’s “X Factor,” and likely kept Robert from disbanding The Cure altogether circa 1983/84.

A Must Read for any Cure Fan

Cured is a unique and eye-opening account of the band's earliest years, life on tour, and Lol's own disintegration into alcoholism. Surprisingly well written and captivating, and with beautiful cover art designed by former band member Pearl Thompson, the book reads as a conversation with an old friend. I found myself laughing, smiling, and even crying as I read Lol's version of events. My heart breaks for little Lol growing up with a distant father. I feel his teenage angst as he describes the desire to escape his dismal surroundings and carve out a space for himself in the fascinating world of rock and roll. And I ache when I read how it felt for him to have been pushed out of the band when alcoholism got the best of him. The real triumph of this story comes in the form of his inspirational journey back from destruction. For years we fans have heard the rumors, seen the mockery that has been made of Lol, and wondered how it all truly went down. Tolhurst proves, much to our delight, that things are never so one-sided. A must read for any die-hard fan, this remarkably personal look into his life will turn you into a Lol Tolhurst fan if you're not already.

One of the best music memoirs/autobiographies I've read--and not just because I love the Cure.

Funnily enough, I had been thinking about the lack of any really good recent books about the Cure, or by a member of the Cure--and not a day later, I read that this book was about to be released. I ordered it and waited eagerly for its release.

I didn't know what to expect; I haven't read or heard all that many interviews with Lol, and I wasn't sure what his style, voice, or tone would be like. Music autobios/memoirs are a crap shoot. Some are well done and leave you with a good sense of the individual and the evolution of his or her music and career; some are informative, but all too obviously written by ghost writers or edited with a heavy hand; and some are just plain disappointing across the board due to bad writing and/or the lack of honest self reflection and introspection on the part of the musician.

So I was very pleased to find out how much I truly enjoyed the book (I read it in a couple days). Lol is honest and authentic, which makes this book a satisfying read. He does an excellent job of recounting stories from the Cure's early days from his own perspective, providing insight into the personalities and relationships that make The Cure The Cure. He's respectful of his former bandmates, while primarily turning the critical eye towards himself. And unlike some musicians, he doesn't start telling a story only to end it abruptly with "well, I won't get into what happened next, it's too personal." Any story he tells, he tells from beginning to end, getting the point across without being unnecessarily salacious or shocking. This indicates a respect for the reader as well.

I'm really glad I read this book (and happened to hear about it at just the right time). I applaud Lol Tolhurst for the work he did in providing us with a genuinely insightful and satisfying read.

Ace Greenberg truly writes as he speaks! The history of Bear Sterns, as told by the only insider truly qualified to do so, is packed with the stuff of legends and nightmares. Ace recounts so many small and large tasty morsels of a special time in America. Read this book, and laugh.

A very practical guide for securing your very first board role

This is a practical guide to finding a board position - particularly a first board position. I found it very useful and practical. I have a background in career consulting and employment skills training but I learned that securing a board role is quite different from securing a regular job, even at senior executive level.

The book guides the reader, step-by-step, through the process and is both useful and practical.

It took me a year, but I finally did secure a prestigious board role with a federal government funded body which, if I may say so myself, looks very good on my resume. I would not have secured this position without the help of this book.

Adolf Hitler rose to political prominence by quickly identifying his opponents' weaknesses and turning them to his advantage. As a military leader, however, he rarely exercised the same talent for exploiting weak spots. Instead, he threw the bulk of his armies against his enemies' strongest positions, sacrificing much-needed forces at Stalingrad and Tobruk, among other places.

Had he done otherwise, writes Bevin Alexander, Hitler might well have carried the day. His strategy until mid-1940 had been flawless, Alexander argues: "He isolated and absorbed state after state in Europe, gained the Soviet Union as a willing ally, destroyed France's military power, threw the British off the Continent, and was left with only weak and vulnerable obstacles to an empire covering most of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East." After 1940, however, Hitler committed a legion of failures. Ignoring his field commanders' urging, he refused to commit armored divisions to seize the Suez Canal, which would have secured most of the Mediterranean and given the Third Reich easy access to oil. He diverted resources from the navy, allowing the Allies to gain control of the Atlantic Ocean and maintain nearly unbroken supply lines between the United States and Britain. And he weakened Germany's abilities to wage war by turning his armies' energies to carrying out the Final Solution. These and other miscalculations, Alexander suggests, cost the Reich many hard-won strategic advantages, and eventually any chance of victory.

Second-guessing history is an endeavor fraught with peril, and in any event, many historians have discounted the possibility that the Nazi regime could have emerged from global war undefeated. But Alexander's arguable exercise in counterfactuals soon gives way to a thoughtful, generally uncontroversial survey of the war in Europe, one that is of use to students of military history and tactics. --Gregory McNamee

Hitler's skills at spotting an opponent's weaknesses brought him an uninterrupted string of victories from the fall of Weimar in 1933 to the fall of France in 1940. Afterwards, argues Alexander (Robert E. Lee's Civil War), he began believing his own press clippings. Invading Russia became a recipe for defeat when Hitler insisted on simultaneously persecuting a population he could have won over and pursuing offensives without regard for the operational situation. Above all, Alexander continues, Hitler failed to see that Germany's way to victory led not through Moscow but through Cairo. Even a fraction of the resources squandered in Russia would have enabled Germany to create a Middle Eastern empire that would have forced the U.S.S.R. to remain neutral, marginalized Britain and kept the U.S. from projecting enough power across the Atlantic to invade the continent against an intact Wehrmacht. This is an often-rehashed, often refuted position. German scholars like Andreas Hillgruber and Gerhard Schreiber have successfully and painstakingly demonstrated that the Mediterranean was a strategic dead end, despite its seeming operational possibilities. As a counterpoint to Hitler's shortcomings as a war leader, Alexander offers the usual Wehrmacht heroesDRommel, Manstein, Guderian. In praising their operational achievements, however, he omits discussion of the generals' consistent collaboration with their f hrer in military matters, or about the absence of significant dissent throughout the war. Instead, Alexander accepts the generals' long-discredited argument that had Hitler been willing to listen to those who understood the craft of war, things might have been different. This one-sided perspective significantly limits the book's value to both specialists and general readers. (Dec. 5)

Alexander's 10 errors are hard to count exactly, but they may be summed up thus: between summer 1940 and fall 1941, Hitler threw away an overwhelming strategic superiority. He failed to eliminate the British when they were weakest and then launched a costly frontal attack on Russia. After 1942, the war was all downhill for Germany, and Alexander devotes the second half of the book to detailed discussions of campaigns of which alternate outcomes could only have lessened the magnitude of the German defeat, not led to German victory. Alexander's considerable warmth toward Rommel (to the point of hero worship) and, to a lesser extent, toward Patton may perplex many who hope to read more about Hitler, and still, this clear, well-researched book that draws on material from both sides of the Allied-Axis divide is by no means a bad introduction to the strategic analysis of World War II. War and Peace-meal

Many people feel that D-Day was the decisive turning point of the war. Others feel that Barbarossa deserves that honor.
After reading this book, however, I tend to agree with the author that the African campaign now deserves the title of "the one that got away".
From a strategic standpoint the Mediterranean was ignored, not only by Hitler, but by most history-buffs as well. Even as late as 1943, had Hitler diverted attention from the Balkans and attacked Malta, moved into Egypt and grabbed the Suez - bye, bye England. Bye-bye launch pad for D-day. Even Churchill, who had a very acute eye for strategy, most of the time, felt that Africa was his biggest nightmare.
A point to remember when reading this book - it is not a 'what-if'. It is a lesson in defeat, basically, what it takes to lose a war. We all know Hitler's ideology and blind hatred of the Slavic people, in attacking Russia, cost him ultimate victory. What we don't always remember, or even want to admit, is that Germany had the greatest military the world had ever seen. Even in 1942, after the biggest chances for victory in Russia were over, the Wehrmacht was still capturing hundreds of thousands of Soviet prisoners in encirclement battles. Imagine if Hitler had listened to those that knew best. Of course, had he been a personality that listened to advice, chances are he would never have come to power in the first place. The ultimate conundrum.

How Bevin Alexander Could Have Won His Readers Attention

Despite my attempt at a witty review title, I did enjoy reading this book. I most say, however, that I am probably the poster child for the target audience of this book. I am a reader of mostly non-fiction with a predilection for military history, and I am a bit of a Germanophile, which I find to be common in other readers of the same bent. Also, I have played my share of wargames, and can appreciate, to some extent, how the Axis may have won WWII. So, I SHOULD really like this book. A whole lot. Well, I just can't say that I do. This book could have been better, and this is somewhat bothersome to me, as I think the author really missed what was an easy mark, and I was really looking forward to a good read. As other reviewers have said, Alexander wrote an excellent "big picture" overview, discussing several crucial points where the course of the war may have taken a different turn, occupying maybe a third of the book. Alexander then sinks into re-telling European WWII in extreme tactical detail, especially in his treatment of the North African and Italian theaters. This detail is actually interesting for what it is, and even somewhat on-point as it deals with Allied and German blunders which may have effected major battle outcomes, but it drags down the book. My attention began to wander and I kept waiting to get back to the what I thought was the thrust of the book - what Germany could have done to win the war. What I continually was presented with, however, was how the Allies failed to exploit some tactical victory somewhere, or mis-used their armor in some minor battle - a sort-of Allied "bloops and blunders" which simply indicated to me that Germany would have lost sooner, if not for these Allied mis-steps. That's not where I thought the book was going to take me, and not where I wanted to go. The book is a little schizophrenic, not really sure what it is trying to be. Alexander had a chance to write a good discussion of German "opportunities lost", with maybe some new insights, which is what his title suggests. He chose, instead, to write a battle diary with a really good forward. In spite of all this, I am glad I read the book, as I did enjoy Alexanders battle narratives and what insights into German strategic thinking he actually did provide. It is easy to capture my attention and interest with books of this genre, and Alexander comes close, at times, to maintaining my keen interest. He always seems to bog down, however, and forget his overall objective with this book. I am just disappointed Alexander, who is clearly quite capable, didn't provide the book I expected and to which I looked forward when I purchased it. I would still buy this book, I would just be prepared for the detailed battle accounts which wait like minefields to destroy your attention span.

This is a well written, easy to read, overview of the critical military decisions in Europe and North Africa during World War II. What it is not, as some might surmise from the title, is a "what if" text that reviews the alternative outcomes of the decisions not made.
The author does an excellent job of reviewing the various opinions offered Hitler by his various military advisors, and he does an excellent job of outlining their merits. Furthermore, at every turn he makes a compelling case for what he considers to have been the proper course of action. Unfortunately, Alexander frequently bogs down in narrative of the various battles, and loses his focus on the critical decisions not made. Furthermore, with a few notable exceptions, he generally does not project these alternate decisions into a long term view of the war.
This is an enjoyable little book, that offers an excellent overview of some of the critical German military decisions of WWII. However, anyone looking for a more serious work would do well to consider Murray & Millett's outstanding "A War to Be Won".

referring to this book and making scarf

My wife loves knitted scarfs and I wanted to make one and gift her on her b’day. Though I never made any, I know basics of knitting because my mom was into knitting and when I was young I used to help her. So, when I was searching for knitting books, this one was free. So, got it.

This is very detailed book on knitting. I’m referring this book and making scarf. I’m almost done with it. I found this book is easy to follow. If you love knitting and want learn, you can refer to this one. Author has provided illustrations as well. Only thing is, author has to take care of formatting of this book but contents are really good.

I hope my wife likes my gift :).

Very basic introduction to knitting

Three books essentially identical, VERY basic info. Crochet book was nice add on, but none would serve as a resource for anyone but a complete newbie.

A little bit of redundancy for the first two books but the value is still there

I got this book hoping to surprise my gf (who loves knitting) with some new mad knitting skillz! It was difficult at first but the pictures on the first book aided me greatly. The second book seemed like a random throwaway because it had the same pictures as first book and similar topics. Third one made up for it as I learned a couple of new things. Overall nice bundle as it helped me show off (she was still impressed!) but could have been a bit better.
