Excellent!

I bought this book in order to learn how to tune (and maybe more) the ancient out-of-tune piano we recently acquired. I have a music degree, and took about 12 years of piano lessons and 9 years of cello lessons. Obviously as a cellist I have experience tuning a cello, and I have also tuned guitars, violins, hammered dulcimer, and a variety of other stringed instruments, but never a piano. I also took physics of music in college so I had some background in the basic physics concepts involved - frequencies, harmonics, temperments, etc. After reading through the relevant chapters in the book, I was able to successfully tune our piano! It was more difficult than I anticipated and took quite a bit of time, practice, and patience, but this book provided all the information I needed. Our ancient 1920's piano is now playable. :-) I read some of the other chapters on piano servicing and repair, and I think I could learn to perform some of the other repairs if needed. We don't have the money for the necessary parts at the moment though, so that will be a project for the future. I'm very glad I bought this book.
Please note that the skills involved in tuning and servicing a piano are not things you can learn in a matter of minutes. If you want to learn, this book will help you, but you must be prepared to put in the necessary time and effort. Read carefully, follow the instructions, and practice.

Great factual book for understanding the pianoforte

All piano players should have this to better understand the mechanics of their piano. Even if you pay to have your piano tuned (ouch!), it will help you know a good one from a bad one. I have had my piano wrecked by a tuner, and then had to search the area (new location) to find someone that had a good reputation to fix what the other guy did. Embarassing, and expensive!
Kits are available if you are adventurous, and the book is a great guide. Watch some youtube videos so you have a visual as well. Add this to your piano bench while they are still available!

Can't Put Down

So I'll start off by saying that I'm totally an instrument geek. I'm a trumpet builder by trade but I love the history and engineering of all instruments. So naturally this was a book I felt I should buy. I love that it doesn't read like a manual or just a list of facts. Reblitz really tells the story of the piano and I learned so much. (I even brought it to the beach on vacation for Oceanside reading.)

-NONE!
